ASICLAND wins additional project "Development of Edge AI Accelerator and Solution for Real-time Media Quality Enhancement"

  Asicland Co., LTD (CEO Jong-min, LEE) announced on 22nd May that they won an additional government project “Development of Edge AI Accelerator and Solution for Real-time Media Quality Enhancement” with Siliconarts Inc(CEO Hyungmin, YOON), SAPEON Inc(CEO Soojung, RYU) and Kyung Hee University.

  The consortium carries out the project of real-time image quality enhancement based on AI (Artificial Intelligence). It plans to guarantee high-resolution image processing used for diverse technologies, including clouds, games or metaverse. For the real-time high-resolution ray tracing implementation, SAPEON’s AI semiconductor technology will become an integral part for low resolution images to be upscaled to high resolution.

  Jong-min LEE, CEO of Asicland, said this leading company “will develop an integrated solution of GPU from Siliconarts and NPU from SAPEON which have been developed separately” under this project, and added “It’s a chance to expand its application in the previous projects.” 

  This turnkey process entails Asicland designing high-quality system semiconductors and outsourcing the flow after fabrication and delivering them as a final stage. The company is the only VCA (Value Chain Aggregator) of TSMC located in Korea, encompassing IP development, SOC development, quality inspection, and testing. 

  The semi-conductor market has been paying attention to this well-organized company, Asicland, with technology for developing and mass-producing memory controllers, 5G communication, and AI semiconductors. The company participated in the design of SAPEON X220, AI semiconductor of SK Telecom Co., Ltd, proving its technology for ASIC solution in this process. SAPEON is an AI semiconductor for data centers. It has 1.5 times faster speed than existing graphics processing units (GPU) when it comes to deep learning calculation. 

  This chip allows for 1.5 times more processing capacity for data center applications. As a low-cost, high-efficiency product, it’s priced half as much as existing GPU’s and consumes 80% less electricity. In an effort to prove top-notch semiconductor design technology, Asicland has completed the business as a turnkey partner through the use of SK Telecom’s AI processor of core parts.
