[Hopeful small business champion] Lee Jong-min, CEO of ASICLAND, said “Do our best to develop semiconductor industry by stepping up into a global company.”

“I think the most important thing for sustainable management as a global company is cultivating people of talent.”
On the 28th, Lee Jong-min (48), CEO of ASICLAND, explained his plan at ASICLAND headquarters in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon. ASICLAND, a chipless company specializing in non-memory semiconductor design, is recognized as the only TSMC VCA in Korea so they provide design solutions and products to customer who want to use TSMC which is the world’s largest dedicated independent semiconductor foundry.
CEO lee highlighted that cultivating people of talent is a top priority, especially for sustainable management.
He said “I think the most important thing is human resources since semiconductors are industries that combine talent’s technology. We tried to form an in-house corporate culture suitable for in-house talent.”
Despite its short career, ASICLAND has systems as ▶10-6 commuting system ▶ Leave work at 4 p.m. on Friday ▶ education and training expense support ▶ loans for lease ▶ welfare point system.
Among them, the most important system for CEO Lee was the benefit sharing system. “I think it’s more important to compensate incentives suitable for your performance through the benefit sharing system than just emphasizing ownership,” he said. “This is why ASICLAND is expanding the system every year which is related to benefit sharing by giving stock option to all employees.”
To meet his conviction, ASICLAND provides performance bonuses twice a year and rewards engineers for their performance by granting stock options.
ASICLAND is working hard to provide semiconductor chips at low price to university and national research institutes. “There are more than 80 university research institutes with no foundry in Korea, so they need to get semiconductor chips for each paper,” he said. “We supply chips for research because we think talented people working at national research institutes are future talents and potential customers."
This means the most important thing is the process to foster future talents by suppling semiconductor chips to national institutes. This is the reason why ASICLAND has been running this business for long time despite its low margin rate.
ASICLAND is also actively recruiting new employees. “Educate new employees by hiring is the most important part for our company’s future,” he said. “We are making efforts because from a long time of view, in-house fostering can lead to another opportunity.”
As for the result, ASICLAND was selected as a human resource development small and medium sized company certified by ministry of SMEs and Startups, and proved to be a talent-oriented company such as a promising company in Gyeonggi-do and an excellent job company.
CEO Lee expressed his ambition not only to stop here but also to grow into a global company by striving to foster and recruit talent in the future.
"As ASICLAND has done so far, we want to continue to innovate technology with our customers and contribute to the development of the nation's semiconductor industry," he said. "All executives and employees will work together to make more projects successful."
