Jong-min Lee, CEO of ASICLAND, "We will contribute to Korea leading the world in Artificial Intelligence"

ASICLAND (CEO Jong-min Lee), an ASIC-service company, has proved its top-notch technology while continuing the cooperation with large and small Korean companies.

According to industry sources, ASICLAND contributed to the commercialization of Deeper-I "Edge Network Processing Unit (NPU) System-on-Chip (SoC)" for the first time in Korea. NPU SoC is more than 50 times more efficient in power, process efficiency and cost than existing Nvidia Jetson Nano board products.

Deeper-I attributed its successful product development to its "cooperation" with ASICLAND. This means that ASICLAND, Korea's sole TSMC Value Chain Aggregator, has been able to help reduce the burden of development investment and successfully commercialize the product.

Deeper-I emphasizes that it can relieve the needs for importing the similar products and is going to enter domestic and foreign markets at the same time through the commercialization of this new products. Through the success of the project, ASICLAND showed off its technology and competitiveness. The company plans to do its best to improve customer satisfaction by enabling customers to get the most out of their core element technologies.

An industry source said, "ASICLAND is providing a turn-key service by designing high-performance system semiconductors and outsourcing the flow activities after fab-out," adding, "It must have been helpful for Deeper-I to commercialize its product because ASICLAND has IP development, SoC development, and Quality Assurance departments."

Last year, the company participated in the design of SAPEON X220, Korea's first artificial intelligence semiconductor developed by SK Telecom, proving its technology already.

SAPEON is an AI semiconductor for data centers. Compared with conventional graphics processing units (GPUs), the operation speed of deep learning is 1.5 times faster. It can increase the processing capacity by 1.5 times when applied to data center with half the price and 80 percent of electricity consumption of existing GPUs. ASICLAND was provided with the AI processor from SK Telecom and carried out the project in a turnkey-basis. Throughout this, ASICLAND demonstrated the most trusted semiconductor design skills.

Based on this achievement, ASICLAND keeps working with global leading IP companies such as ARM, and OpenEdges to provide stable solutions to customers.

One of the propelling factors for this achievement of ASICLAND is the company's seamless innovation in R&D. Since its foundation in 2016, the company has been focusing on R&D and technology transfer for the development of next-generation products. Currently, there are more than 120 related engineers in various fields, including SoC, Front-end, DFT(design for test), Back-end, package, and test. ASICLAND develops and mass-produces memory controllers, 5G communications, and AI semiconductors.

Jong-min Lee, CEO of ASICLAND said, "For rapid development of AI semiconductors, we have been developing an AI semiconductor platform that will enable internal design flow automation. We plan to expand the platform’s coverage to wider products such as Meta-verse, Augmented Reality, Self-driving, and the Internet of Things." He continued, "We will provide a total ASIC solution with which our customers can get the most out of their core technology”, adding, "In this journey, we will do our best to improve our development capabilities and customer satisfaction."
