Launch ‘Semiconductor Design Assets(IP) Support Program’ , For support domestic fabless such as Synopsys, ARM and etc.

The launching ceremony of “The Semiconductor IP Utilization Support Program" was held at the System Semiconductor Design Support Center located in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province, on the 16th (Tuesday) with domestic and foreign semiconductor design assets (IP) companies, design houses, fabless, and foundries.

At the launching ceremony of "Semiconductor IP Utilization Support Program", it introduced a newly launched semiconductor IP utilization support program and signed an MOU to support fabless IP utilization for design houses such as Semiconductor Industry Association, ADTechnology, and Asicland.

The semiconductor IP utilization support program, which was prepared through cooperation between domestic and foreign semiconductor IP companies and design support centers, consists of three types: ▶ Global Semiconductor IP Support ▶ Semiconductor IP Utilization Platform Construction ▶ Domestic Semiconductor IP Support.

First of all, in the field of special support for global semiconductor IP, Synopsys provides semiconductor IP at a discounted price to domestic fabless through the design support center, and the design support center prepares a program to support an additional 10% of the original price. Through this program, domestic fabless businesses can use semiconductor IPs from Synopsys at a significant discount than the regular price.

In the field of semiconductor IP utilization flatform, the design houses which cooperated with ARM provide consulting free of charge on how to use ARM’S semiconductor IP efficiently to domestic fabless through online platforms. Through this, it is expected that domestic fabless businesses, which consist mainly of small and medium-sized companies and startups, will be able to shorten the development period and expand the possibility of successful development.

In the field of domestic semiconductor IP utilization, System semiconductor design support center will provide special support program to promote the use of Korean semiconductor IP not just global company’s one and enhance competitiveness. 

With such support, fabless is expected to get up to 50% discount on domestic semiconductor IP and if needed, additional support will be prepared through cooperation between local semiconductor IP companies. It is planning to provide up to 50 million won during the pilot project (2021), and raise the support limit when implementing this project (2022).

The Fabless IP Utilization support program plans to carry out the main project from 2022 after a pilot project this year and will further strengthen the support for the main project based on the pilot project’s experience.

Following the launching ceremony, At the ‘System Semiconductor Industry Meeting’, foundry, fabless, semiconductor IP companies, and design houses all participated to discuss the current status of the system semiconductor market and future development. Participants proposed ▶ Specialist training ▶ Semiconductor IP commercialization.

Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Sung Yoon-mo said, "In order to become a comprehensive semiconductor powerhouse, we need to expand investment in foundry and strengthen design competitiveness in next-generation new markets such as artificial intelligence semiconductors and power semiconductors."
